A relative who is lax in matters of his religion: should one help him with his marriage?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 3581 )
Q: I have a relative who is negligent in some matters of his religion; for example, he does not care about praying in congregation, and he does not maintain his relationship with his relatives, except for my mother, whom he shows mercy to when he sees her. I also hear some people say:
that he breaks his fast on some days of Ramadan, and he carries a doctor's note, using it as an excuse that he is ill against those who object to his breaking the fast. In addition to that, he does not visit my father when he asks to see him. Is it permissible for me to help him with his wedding? Knowing that I would refuse this help were it not for the fact that he is a relative of my mother.

A : If the matter is as you described, then the matters you mentioned regarding the sins your relative is characterized by, you must advise him. If he accepts the advice and returns to the path of truth, then helping him with his wedding is an act of kindness toward him. If he does not accept the advice, it is prescribed to boycott him and not help him. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
