The ruling on mixing with a person whose characteristics include committing sins
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 6165 )
Q: Whatis the ruling on mixing with a person who has these violations: his negligence in performing the prayer in congregation or leaving it out of laziness. His smoking of tobacco. Cutting the beard. Letting the garment hang below the ankles without arrogance or pride. And cutting the hair on the back of the head while leaving the front. Important note: especially if this person is a brother or a relative, and I have advised him, but I was unable to command him, or he does not listen to my words, but rather considers me backward. So is it forbidden for me to mix with him, even if he is my relative?
A : If the person you mixed with is as you described, committing
sins, and you advised him but he refused to accept the advice, rather mocking you and considering you backward, then there is no blame on you if you have withdrawn from him after you have despaired of his accepting the advice. However, if you did not advise him, or if you continued to mix with him after despairing of his accepting the advice, then you are sinful, unless he is one of your parents, in which case you should treat him with kindness in this world, even if he refuses to accept your advice; for Allah the Exalted said:[Luqman 31:14] until He said: [Luqman 31:15] the verse. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness
وَوَصَّيْنَا الْإِنْسَانَ بِوَالِدَيْهِ حَمَلَتْهُ أُمُّهُ وَهْنًا عَلَى وَهْنٍBut if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me
