Is the presence of a person in a place where there are religiously prohibited matters considered among the prohibitions?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is the presence of a person in a place where there are religiously prohibited matters considered among the prohibitions?

The Shaykh : Yes, it is not permissible for a person to sit in a gathering where there are religiously prohibited matters, unless he is able to remove them. In that case, he must remain until they are removed. However, if he is unable to remove them, it is obligatory for him to leave the place, based on the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:
And it has already come down to you in the Book that when you hear the verses of Allah [recited], they are denied [by them] and ridiculed; so do not sit with them until they enter into another conversation. Indeed, you would then be like them وقد نزل عليكم في الكتاب أن إذا سمعتم آيات الله يكفر بها ويستهزأ بها فلا تقعدوا معهم حتى يخوضوا في حديث غيره إنكم إذا مثلهم
[An-Nisa 4:140]
. This means: If you sit with them, you are like them, that is, in sin.
It is obligatory for a person to forbid what is wrong to the extent of his ability, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
He who amongst you sees something abominable should modify it with the help of his hand; and if he has not strength enough to do it, then he should do it with his tongue, and if he has not strength enough to do it, (even) then he should (abhor it) from his heart, and that is the least of faith. من رأى منكم منكراً فليغيره بيده، فإن لم يستطع فبلسانه، فإن لم يستطع فبقلبه، وذلك أضعف الإيمان
Sahih Muslim 49a
.
Forbidding what is wrong with the heart is not possible while a person remains in the place of the wrong, ever. Because forbidding what is wrong with the heart is hating the wrong and leaving the place if he is unable to change the wrong.
