Praise be to Allah alone, and blessings and peace be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. And after that: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the Grand Mufti from the Honorable Director General of the Branch of the Ministry of
Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Guidance in the Holy City of Madinah , in its letter number (1034 / 2123) dated 27/2/1418 AH, which was referred to the Committee by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars, number (1195) dated 20/2/1418 AH. The inquirer asked a question, the text of which is: What is the ruling on making three-dimensional models for promotional gifts of ceramic material depicting historical sites and mosques .
After the Committee studied the inquiry, it answered as follows: It is not permissible for the aforementioned institution, nor for any other, to make three-dimensional models for promotional gifts or other items depicting historical sites and mosques; because of the fitnah (trial/discord) in that, the spread of bid'ah (religious innovation), and opening the means to shirk (associating partners with Allah) and idolatry. Therefore, it is not permissible to authorize the aforementioned institution, nor any other, to design any of that on gift models or otherwise. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
