The slaughter of one who wears an amulet from the Qur'an or otherwise

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 949 )
Q3: What is the ruling on the slaughter of one who wears an amulet from the Qur'an or otherwise , and of one who ties knots in threads and the like?
A3: Amulets: the plural of tamimah, which is: what is hung of beads, amulets, and charms in the necks of children, animals, women, and the like, and it may be placed in their belts or hung in their hair for protection from evil or repelling what has befallen of harm. This is prohibited, and indeed it is shirk (associating partners with Allah); because Allah is the One in Whose hand is benefit and harm, and it is not for anyone other than Him; for what is established from Ibn Mas'ud : that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
spells, charms and love-potions are polytheismإن الرقى والتمائم والتولة شرك
Sunan Abi Dawud 3883Sahih (Al-Albani)
And when 'Abdullah ibn Hakim narrated it as marfu' (traced to the Prophet):
Whoever hangs something, he is entrusted to it.من تعلق شيئًا وكل إليه
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2072Da'if (Darussalam)
And what is in (the two Sahihs)
From Abu Bashir al-Ansari, that he was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) so he sent a messenger: Let no necklace of a string or a necklace remain in the neck of a camel except that it is cutعن أبي بشير الأنصاري، أنه كان مع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فأرسل رسولاً: ألا يبقين في رقبة بعير قلادة من وتر أو قلادة إلا قطعت
, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) disapproved of hanging strings on camels absolutely, whether knotted or not, and ordered them to be cut, and that is because the people of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance used to tie strings on camels, and place necklaces in their necks, and hang amulets and charms on them for protection from calamities and repelling the evil eye, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited them from it, and disapproved of it practically, where he ordered them to be cut, and whoever believes that the amulet and the like has an effect in bringing benefit or repelling harm is a mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah) with major shirk that takes him out of the religion, and refuge is sought in Allah, and his slaughter is not eaten, and whoever believes that they are merely causes, and that Allah is the One who benefits and harms, and that He is the One who arranges the effects upon them is a mushrik with minor shirk, because they are not customary or legal causes, but rather illusory,
and some scholars have excepted from that what is hung of the Qur'an, so they permitted it and understood what is established of hadiths prohibiting the hanging of amulets to be what is from other than the Qur'an, but the correct view is that the hadiths of prohibition are general because no specific text was reported from him (peace and blessings be upon him) to specify them, and to block the means to harm, for it leads to hanging what is not so, as it also leads to the desecration of the Qur'an. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
