Q: I inform your eminence that I am a man married to a woman who suffers from severe atrophy of the breasts. In past years, the shape of the breasts would improve during the breastfeeding period due to the presence of milk, then return to their usual atrophy. However, the situation worsened in the last year, reaching a degree of atrophy that makes the breast like a man's, meaning only the small nipple is visible. I took her to a doctor in Qatar, who advised a surgical procedure using silicone material inside the breast to control its size increase, and the attached translated report confirms this. My problem now has two aspects: the first aspect is the
bad psychological state of my wife due to this problem, which makes her feel inferior because she is deprived of the beauty of the chest and unable to please her husband. The second aspect is my severe suffering from not fully enjoying my wife like other husbands, which makes me feel distressed and depressed. It is not a trivial matter, and Allah the Exalted described the women of Paradise by saying: which indicates the importance of the beauty of the chest for a woman. The question now is: 1 - Is it permissible to perform such an operation on my wife for the aforementioned reasons? 2 - If it is permissible, is there a difference between the surgical operation on the breasts and injections into the breast itself ? Knowing that the doctor did not tell me whether this treatment has side effects or not? Please issue a ruling, may Allah reward you with good, on proceeding with this treatment or refraining from it.
A : If the reality is as mentioned, it is permissible to perform an operation to treat the breasts if it does not result in harm to the woman's body; because what is mentioned is among the diseases for which treatment is prescribed, as indicated by the many texts of the Shari'ah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
