Q: I am a young man of eighteen years old. Four years ago, I experienced an enlargement of my breasts, which was accompanied by some pain. After a period of time, the pain subsided, praise be to Allah, and the enlargement remained as it was. The enlargement of the breasts is visible even through clothing. I asked a specialist doctor about it, and he said that this enlargement can be removed easily through a cosmetic surgical procedure. Is it permissible to undergo such a procedure? I note that this enlargement causes me embarrassment in front of others.
A: It is permissible for you to undergo the cosmetic procedure to remove this enlargement if it is more likely than not that the operation will be successful and no harm arises that exceeds its benefit or is equal to it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
