The first question of Fatwa number (1325)
Q 1: Is it permissible to transfer blood from one person to another, even if their religions differ?
A 1 : If a person falls ill or his weakness becomes severe, and there is no way to strengthen or treat him except by transferring blood from another to him, and this becomes the only means of saving his life, and those with knowledge are confident that he will benefit from it, then there is no harm in treating him by transferring blood from another to him, even if their religions differ. Blood may be transferred from a disbeliever, even a one at war, to a Muslim, and from a Muslim to a disbeliever who is not at war. As for the one at war, his life is not protected, so it is not permissible to assist him; rather, he should be killed, unless he is captured. In that case, the Imam of the Muslims or his deputy may do with him what he sees as in the interest of the Muslims, whether killing him, enslaving him, showing him leniency, or accepting a ransom from him or his relatives. Otherwise, if he is granted safety, he is to be given protection until the proof is made clear to him. If he believes, that is well; otherwise, he is to be sent to a place of safety. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
