Fatwa number ( 13271 )

Q: Allah has afflicted me with a serious illness, namely cancer, may Allah protect you from its evil. I have suffered greatly from it since 1399 AH until now. I visited all the government and private hospitals in the Kingdom and spent all the money I had without any benefit. I was forced to travel abroad in search of treatment. By the grace of Allah, and then by the generosity of my Muslim brothers who gave me their money, whether as a loan or a debt, it was made easy for me to identify and diagnose the illness and the treatment. Now, praise be to Allah, I have recovered, but the debts have reached approximately five hundred thousand riyals. I have no real estate, money, or relative through whom I can settle the rights owed to me. Now, I am compelled to seek every possible way and means so that I can pay off the people's rights, may Allah reward them with the best reward, even if it costs me remaining disabled. The question is: Is it permissible in the Shari'ah for me to sell some of my body organs, such as a kidney, the cornea of the eye, or a part of the liver, or organs that medicine deems do not cause harm or result in damage after their removal? The purpose of the sale is repayment, as I have no hope of repaying my debts except through this method. I know that I receive a monthly salary of (5300) riyals, which is not sufficient to cover the cost of treatment, in addition to spending on my family and the rent of the house. I fear that I may stumble and the people's rights remain a debt on my conscience, especially since my family
is mostly women and children. I hope there will be a sufficient and adequate answer by which I can obtain the settlement of the people's rights before the time runs out, and so that I may be at ease in this world before the Day of Reckoning. May Allah reward you with good.

A: It is not permissible for you to sell any of your organs to pay off the debt or anything else. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
