Q: I wish to undergo a surgical procedure on my lower lip, as it is somewhat large and causes me some embarrassment.
I believe the reason for its large size is that when I was a child, I lived as an orphan without care or guidance, so I would sometimes pull it with my hand or put my hand in my mouth, and sometimes press it with my teeth. To what extent is this procedure permissible from a Sharia perspective, and what is your advice to me in this regard?
A: It is permissible to perform the operation to reduce the size of the lower lip, provided that harm is avoided. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
