A Doctor’s Treatment of Women
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The eighth question of Fatwa No. ( 3201 )
Q 8: Is it permissible for a man to take his wife to a Muslim or non-Muslim doctor to treat her and examine her so that he sees her private parts? Knowing that some people take their daughters to doctors to be examined in the same way, and to issue them with a certificate of virginity, and they do this when the wedding date approaches.
A 8: If it is possible to have the woman examined and treated by a Muslim female doctor, it is not permissible for a male doctor, even if he is Muslim, to examine and treat her. If that is not possible and she is in dire necessity for treatment, it is permissible for a Muslim male doctor to examine her in the presence of her husband or a mahram (a relative one may not marry); out of fear of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) or the occurrence of something with bad consequences.
If a Muslim doctor is not available, then a non-Muslim doctor is allowed under the aforementioned condition. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
