Is it permissible for a man to pray wearing only a pair of trousers, and is he required to repeat his previous prayers?

The questioner : Sometimes in the summer, during the intense heat, some people pray wearing nothing but a pair of trousers, with the upper half of their body exposed. Does this affect the validity of the prayer? If so, what must he do? And is he required to repeat his previous prayers?
The Shaykh : There is no doubt that covering the 'awrah (part of the body that must be covered) is a condition of the ritual prayer, as Allah the Exalted said:[Al-A'raf 7:31] The scholars have agreed that the prayer of one who prays naked, while he is able to cover his 'awrah, is invalid. One of the conditions of covering the 'awrah is that the covering must be thick, not thin. If it is thin such that the color of the skin is visible through it and can be distinguished, then it does not serve as a covering. Based on this, it is obligatory for the Muslim on hot days to be cautious of this type of clothing, meaning the thin type through which the color of the skin, i.e., the color of the skin, is visible.
The 'awrah of a man in his prayer is the area between his navel and his knee, so he must cover this entire area with a thick garment through which the color of the skin is not visible. Accordingly, what the questioner mentioned regarding the fact that the one praying restricts himself to trousers without wearing a cloak or shirt, his prayer is valid as long as he has covered the area between the navel and the knee. However, the better and more preferable course is to take on all the adornment, meaning: to place clothing on the entire body. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Bulugh al-Maram 2:72 This is the best and most complete. And if he prays restricting himself to the izar (lower garment) alone, covering the area between the navel and the knee, it suffices him, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the hadith of Jabir: Sahih al-Bukhari 361.

O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjid
