A woman nursing her husband's father and seeing his private parts

Fatwa number ( 20664 )
Q: I have a married sister, and it was Allah's will that her husband's father suffered a stroke resulting in hemiplegia. He is bedridden and unable to get up from his bed. My sister is the one who attends to his affairs, and they do not have a maid; rather, she is the one who washes him, takes him to the bathroom, and changes his clothes. Is she considered a mahram (a relative one may not marry) to him or not? I ask for advice.
A: If no man is available to perform this task, it is permissible for the wife of his son to do so out of dire necessity, but she must place a covering over the 'awrah (the part of the body that must be covered) and wash it from behind the covering, and she should wear a glove or wrap on her hand. This is based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:[At-Taghabun 64:16] Wiping with rough, purifying cloths three times or more serves as a substitute for istinja' (cleaning oneself after relieving oneself) with water if it removes the trace of urine and feces from the place.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
