Naming the wife's father an uncle and her mother an aunt
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 9088 )
Q1: Many people of the desert refer to the wife's father as an uncle and her mother as an aunt, and conversely, the wife refers to the husband's parents as uncles. In both of these cases, they are considered mahram (a relative one may not marry). We ask for your guidance.
A1: There is no harm in this at all; because it is a matter of respect, and the husband's father is a mahram to his son's wife, and the husband's mother is a mahram to her daughter's husband due to the affinity (mushaharah) between them. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
