Fatwa No. ( 16543 )
Q: There are hadiths indicating that contagion does not exist in Islam, but on the other hand, we find the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the plague, that if it is in the land of a people, we do not enter it, and if we are in a land and the plague is in it, we do not leave it. I hope you will clarify this for us with some elaboration. May Allah reward you with good.
A: The contagion denied in the hadith is: what the people of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance believed, namely that contagion affects by itself. As for the prohibition of entering a town where the plague has occurred, it falls under the category of taking protective measures. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
