The responsibility for a car accident lies with the direct party, who is the driver

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 18172 )
Q4: An accident happened to me and my colleague, and he passed away (may Allah have mercy on him). The car involved in the accident belongs to me, and my colleague was the driver. He was driving at a reckless speed, and I warned him not to speed or to let me drive, but he insisted on driving, and the accident occurred. Do I have to do anything, such as feeding the poor or fasting? Please inform us, may Allah preserve you.
A4: The responsibility for a car accident lies with the direct party, who is the driver, regarding the expiation and blood money if he is held liable for the entire accident or part of it. He is also responsible for his share of the blood money if others were involved in the accident with him. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
