Fatwa number ( 6890 )
Q: Allah has decreed upon me the fall of a child in the garden of my apartment, and he died as a result. After the case was concluded, I was informed that I am required to pay the expiation, which is fasting two consecutive months. My circumstances, O honorable Shaykh, do not allow me to fast for this duration , as I am an employee at the Civil Affairs Department in the city, and I meet with petitioners continuously, in addition to the demands of the home and the children. I ask you to issue a ruling: if I feed sixty poor people, will that suffice in place of the fast, or not? May Allah reward you with the best reward.
A: If the situation is as described, feeding the poor does not suffice for you in place of the fast.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
