Q: If one vows to fast two consecutive months, is it necessary that he fast them consecutively or is it permissible for a person to fast one month consecutively and fast the other month consecutively as well, but at another time of the year?
A: If one vows to fast two consecutive months, it is obligatory for him to maintain consecutiveness between the two months, and it is not permissible for him to separate the two months; because this is like the fasting expiation for killing mentioned in the saying of Allah the Exalted:[An-Nisa 4:92] to His saying: [An-Nisa 4:92] , and the meaning of consecutiveness is that he does not separate the two months by breaking the fast or otherwise, except for a legitimate religious excuse that permits him to break the fast; such as an illness
that prevents him from fasting, and breaking the fast is obligatory. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
