The questioner : She inquires about the noble verse regarding accidental killing in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
then [instead], a fast for two months consecutively فَمَنْ لَمْ يَستطع فَصِيَامُ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ
[An-Nisa 4:92]
She says, “Guide us on how a woman should fast these days?”

The Shaykh : First, I wish this woman had not been involved in killing, because a woman can be required to fast two months consecutively in cases other than killing.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : However, a woman might commit accidental killing if, for example, her child is beside her in the bed and she turns over on him while sleeping and kills him.

The questioner : Yes...

The Shaykh : In this case, it is obligatory for her to pay the expiation to Allah Mighty and Majestic, and it is obligatory for her kin to pay the blood money to the heirs of this child, based on the saying of Allah Blessed and Exalted is He:
And whoever kills a believer by mistake - then the freeing of a believing slave and a compensation payment presented to the deceased's family [is required] unless they give [up their right as] charity
[An-Nisa 4:92]
until He said:
And whoever does not find [one or cannot afford to buy one] - then [instead], a fast for two months consecutively, [seeking] acceptance of repentance from Allah. And Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.
[An-Nisa 4:92]
If a woman is required to fast two months consecutively and she menstruates, she breaks her fast during menstruation. Then, when she becomes pure, she resumes fasting, meaning she continues her fasting, and her previous fasting is not invalidated. For example, if she menstruates for seven days in the first month and seven days in the second month, she must add fourteen days to the two months that were interrupted by menstruation to complete the fast of two consecutive months.
Likewise, it is said regarding the expiation for an oath. If a woman is required to pay the expiation for an oath and she does not find the expiation of feeding, which is feeding ten poor people, or clothing, or freeing a slave, then it is obligatory for her to fast three consecutive days. If she fasts the first day and then menstruates, she breaks her fast. When she becomes pure, she fasts only two days, building upon the first day. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you...

The Shaykh : Likewise, it is said for one whose consecutiveness is interrupted by another excuse, such as illness or travel. When his excuse is removed, he builds upon what came before.

The questioner : The listener who symbolized her name with N R from Riyadh says.
