Q: My wife passed away and left me an infant son who was two months old,
so I made every effort to preserve him and care for him. Among those efforts was buying artificial milk from the markets and feeding it to him, but he did not accept it, and he was afflicted with a disease that caused his belly to swell, and he passed away
after a day or two had passed. Is there anything required of me in this matter?

A : If the matter is as you described, the most cautious course is for you to free a slave; because you did not take the precaution of consulting a doctor regarding the milk that suits the child. If you are unable to do so, then you must fast two consecutive months. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
