Fatwa number ( 15026 )
Q: A woman gave birth to two fetuses in their seventh month (twins) and thought they would die because their development was incomplete, so she neglected them while occupied with herself; she did not breastfeed them or feed them, and there was no medical care. This was fifty years ago, and the two children died less than a day after their birth. The woman is now over eighty years old and cannot fast. What should she do?
A: If the matter is as stated, then the expiation is upon their mother. The expiation for each of the two fetuses is freeing a believing slave. If she does not
find one, she must fast for two consecutive months. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
