Q1: If a man dies in a foreign land and his wife is with him, does she observe her waiting period in the foreign land, or does she return and observe it in her husband’s home country?
A1: She observes her waiting period in the country where her husband died, provided that is feasible for her, meaning he has a residence there where she can stay, she feels safe in that residence, it is not difficult for her to remain in that country, and she has mahram relatives with her to protect her. Otherwise, she returns to her husband’s home country and observes her waiting period in her husband’s house, the one she lived in before the trip, if that is feasible. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
