Fatwa number ( 599 )
Q: My sister married a man from the residents of the al-Arṭawiyyah region, and then he passed away. She has no children from him, and she has no relatives in al-Arṭawiyyah . She has no one but Allah and then me, and we are residents of the city of Abha . Is it permissible for her to complete her waiting period in Abha ?
A: It is permissible for this wife to move to Abha or any place where she feels safe for herself, so that she can complete the remainder of her waiting period for her husband, if she fears for her safety that her honor will be violated and there is no one with her to protect her. However, if she is safe from being attacked and she only wants to be close to her family, it is not permissible for her to move. Rather, she must remain in her place until she completes her waiting period, and then she travels with her mahram to wherever she wishes. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
