Q: What is your opinion, may Allah keep you, regarding a man who adopted a child and raised him under his care, added him to his family registry, and issued a legal document to that effect, bequeathing to him in inheritance because he is sterile? Does the Shari'ah permit the lineage that the adopter sees, and prevent the disgrace of the child and the collapse of his nerves or madness if he learns that he is not the legal son of this adopter? What is your opinion in our case? Please inform us, may Allah reward you? Is the lineage and his claiming it forbidden? And if we remove the lineage, is it permissible to bequeath to him?
A: What you did in adopting the child you mentioned, registering him in your registry as your son, and confirming that with a document so that he inherits from you as your son, is a pure error, a transgression of the limits of Allah, and a lie to the officials of the state by informing them of something contrary to the reality. Adoption is not permissible in Islam; for Allah the Exalted and Sublime said:[Al-Ahzab 33:4-5] the verse. Informing of something contrary to the reality is not permissible; for it is forgery and pure lying. All of this is forbidden by many proofs mentioned in their places. What you did does not attach him to your lineage nor make him an heir to you. You must repent to Allah the Exalted and correct the official documents related to him with those concerned, so that Allah may forgive us and you what we and you have neglected of sins, and reward you for raising him and spending on him with the best reward. If you bequeath to him something from your third, that is good. And if you give him a completed gift, that is better
if he is in need, to complete your kindness to him. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

(4) Allah has not made for a man two hearts in his interior. And He has not made your wives whom you declare unlawful your mothers. And he has not made your adopted sons your [true] sons. That is [merely] your saying by your mouths, but Allah says the truth, and He guides to the [right] way. (5) Call them by [the names of] their fathers; it is more just in the sight of Allah. But if you do not know their fathers - then they are [still] your brothers in religion and those entrusted to you.
