The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “And He made you inherit their land, their dwellings, and their wealth, and a land which you had not trodden.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Among its benefits is that in His saying:
And He caused you to inherit their land and their homes
[Al-Ahzab 33:27]
to the end of the verse, it is established that when the believers conquer a land, they own the land, based on His saying:
And He made you inherit their land
. Once they own the land, is it to be divided among the spoils-takers, held in trust for the public treasury, or distributed among the believers with a land tax? There is scholarly disagreement on this, and the correct view is that it is obligatory for the one in authority to look at what is most beneficial. If he sees that it should be distributed among the spoils-takers, he does so, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did in Khaybar. If he sees that it should be kept for the interests of the Muslims, he keeps it. If he sees that it should be distributed among the Muslims with a land tax imposed on it, he does so, as 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) did. For example, he would say: “We are dividing it among you on the condition that for every hundred meters, so many and so many dirhams are paid, like the amount of a sa'.” These dirhams would belong to the Muslims, who would benefit from them. The point is that if a land is conquered by force, it belongs to whom? It belongs to the Muslims, based on His saying:
And He made you inherit their land.
.
The student: ...land tax?

The Shaykh : They have no ownership without compensation.
The student: ...?

The Shaykh : The Muslims who took possession of it did not impose anything on them, but the Jews of Khaybar were left there as farmers because they knew how to manage these farms. So, they were given half of what came out of them in fruit or crops. Otherwise, the land belongs to the Muslims; the Jews have no claim to it.
Another benefit is that the wealth of disbelievers is made lawful for the Muslims, based on His saying:
and their wealth وأموالهم
. The spoils of war are made lawful for the Muslims, and this is one of the special characteristics of this Ummah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I was given five things which no prophet before me was given: I was given victory through terror for a distance of a month; the earth was made for me a place of prostration and a means of purification; spoils of war were made lawful for me and were not made lawful for anyone before me; I was given intercession; and a prophet was sent only to his own people, while I was sent to all people.
.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the glad tidings that the Muslims will take over other lands of the disbelievers. From where is this taken, my brother? From where do you take this glad tidings?
The student: ...?

The Shaykh : A student of knowledge must understand; a student of knowledge must have a book. The prescribed book, whether it is the Qur'an, or in hadith, or in fiqh, or in usul al-fiqh. A student of knowledge does not come as a listener; he does not come as a listener to be like the common people in the market who do not write. A student of knowledge must be a student in the true sense of the word, otherwise there is no benefit in seeking knowledge. A student walks like a donkey carrying a torn sack that does not hold water. My advice to you is to take books like the other students, to follow the teacher, and to attend the lessons. All right, Zayd.
The student:
And a land which you had not yet trodden.
.

The Shaykh : His saying:
And a land which you had not yet trodden.
And He caused you to inherit their land and their homes and their properties and a land which you have not trodden
[Al-Ahzab 33:27]
, which is Khaybar and other lands of the disbelievers, contains the glad tidings that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) will make the Muslims inherit the lands of the disbelievers.
