Q1: What is the ruling on a young child nursing from a woman whose child is more than two years old, and is it true that if a woman’s child becomes more than two years old, her milk no longer creates a prohibition?
A1: The nursing that creates a prohibition is five or more sucklings within the two-year period. If the child’s nursing from the woman is of this nature, then he is her son through nursing, and a brother to all her children, even if her nursing infant has passed the age of two years; because the consideration is the age of the child who is nursing from her, not the age of her child. Allah the Exalted said:[An-Nisa 4:23] up to His saying:
[An-Nisa 4:23] , and Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Baqarah 2:233] , and it is established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 3105 , and it is established from the hadith of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: “What was revealed in the Qur’an was: ‘Ten known sucklings create a prohibition,’ then it was abrogated by: ‘Five known sucklings.’ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away while the matter was still as it was.” Know that a suckling is: when the child holds the breast and then sucks milk from it; if he leaves it and returns and sucks milk, it is a second suckling, and so on. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

وَالْوَالِدَاتُ يُرْضِعْنَ أَوْلادَهُنَّ حَوْلَيْنِ كَامِلَيْنِWhat is rendered illegal because of blood relations, is also rendered illegal because of the corresponding foster-relations.
