What is the ruling on one who changes his father's name out of ignorance for a worldly benefit

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 1710 )
Q2: What is the ruling on one who changes his father's name out of ignorance for a worldly benefit?
A2: It is not permissible for a person to change his father's name for a worldly benefit; because what he perceives as a benefit is either gaining prestige by claiming descent from someone else and elevating himself above his father's lineage, which is a major sin; due to the lying, falsehood, and contempt for his father and disdain for him by refusing to claim his lineage. Or it is gaining wealth from inheritance, a government position, or something else, which is also a major sin; due to the lying, deception, misleading people regarding lineage, and consuming wealth unlawfully. Furthermore, it involves changing lineages, or leads to changing lineages and causing confusion in them, resulting in the prohibition of what Allah has made lawful and the legalization of what Allah has forbidden, such as marriage and wealth, among other things. This entails great corruption. It is established from Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he said:
If somebody claims to be the son of any other than his real father knowingly, he but disbelieves in Allahليس من رجل ادعى لغير أبيه وهو يعلمه إلا كفر
Sahih al-Bukhari 3508
It is also established from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he said:
He who claimed for another one his fatherhood besides his own father knowingly that he was not his father-to him Paradise is forbidden.من ادعى إلى غير أبيه وهو يعلم أنه غير أبيه فالجنة عليه حرام
Sahih Muslim 63b
It is also established from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he said:
Do not detest your fathers; he who detested his father committed infidelity.لا ترغبوا عن آبائكم، فمن رغب عن أبيه فهو كفر
Sahih Muslim 62
Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim . The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) threatened the one who claims descent from other than his father and was severe in this, even ruling that he is a disbeliever and forbidding him Paradise. So whoever has done this must abandon it, repent to Allah, and seek His forgiveness for what he has neglected. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
