Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
He said -may Allah have mercy on him-: "Chapter on the prohibition of a person claiming lineage to other than his father and taking as his allies other than his own allies:
It was narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 63b Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And it was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who said:Sahih Muslim 62 Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And it was narrated from Yazid ibn Shurayk ibn Tariq who said:Riyad as-Salihin 1804 Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And it was narrated from Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:Sahih Muslim 61 Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim, and this is the wording of Muslim's narration: ".
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author said -may Allah have mercy on him- in his book *Riyad al-Salihin*: "Chapter on the prohibition of a person claiming lineage to other than his father or taking as his allies other than his own allies":
He mentioned -may Allah have mercy on him- two things, both of which are the bonds that join people to one another and bring them closer to each other:
The first is lineage. The second is alliance. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Bulugh al-Maram 15:12.
As for lineage, a person must claim lineage to his family, to his father, to his grandfather, to his father's grandfather, and the like. It is not permissible for him to claim lineage to other than his father while knowing that it is not his father. For example, if his father is from a certain tribe, and he sees that this tribe is inferior to another tribe, and he claims lineage to a second tribe of higher status in order to remove the disgrace of his tribe's status from himself, then this person, may Allah protect us from that, is cursed. The curse of Allah, the angels, and all people is upon him. Allah will not accept from him on the Day of Resurrection any diversion or compensation.
And if a person claims lineage to his grandfather or his grandfather's father, who is famous and well-known, without disavowing his father, there is no harm in that. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1688Sahih (Darussalam), even though he was Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muttalib. Abd al-Muttalib was his grandfather, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) said that during the Battle of Hunayn, because Abd al-Muttalib was more famous than his father Abdullah, and he held the highest position among the Quraysh. Therefore, he said, "I am the son of Abd al-Muttalib." But it is well known that he was Muhammad ibn Abdullah. He did not disavow his father or reject him, but he claimed lineage to his grandfather solely because of his fame.
Likewise, people claim lineage to the name of the tribe. For example, they say Ahmad ibn Taymiyyah and the like, claiming lineage to the tribe, and they omit mentioning the father and grandfather and the like. But the important matter regarding which the warning is issued is the one who claims lineage to other than his father, because he is not satisfied with his status and lineage, and he wants to elevate himself and remove his lowliness by claiming lineage to other than his father. This is the one upon whom the curse falls, may Allah protect us from that. There are, may Allah protect us from that, people who do that for the sake of this world. There are people, for example, who claim lineage to their uncles rather than their fathers for the sake of this world, just as there are people today who have dual citizenships, claiming lineage to their uncle or maternal uncle or the like to gain something from this world. This is also forbidden for him, and it is not permissible for him to do so. It is obligatory for one who is in that situation to change his allegiance and citizenship, as well as his ID card, and not leave it as it is.
And whoever fears Allah, He will make ease for him in his affairs and provide for him from where he does not expect. As for the hadith of Ali ibn Abi Talib, due to its importance and the many issues and rulings contained in it, we will postpone speaking about it, if Allah wills, to another time, if Allah wills. And success is from Allah.

It was narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who claimed for another one his fatherhood besides his own father knowingly that he was not his father-to him Paradise is forbidden.
من ادعى إلى غير أبيه وهو يعلم أنه غير أبيه فالجنة عليه حرامAnd it was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who said:
Do not detest your fathers; he who detested his father committed infidelity.
لا ترغبوا عن آبائكم، فمن رغب عن أبيه فهو كفرAnd it was narrated from Yazid ibn Shurayk ibn Tariq who said:
I saw 'Ali (May Allah be pleased with him) giving a Khutbah (sermon) from the pulpit and I heard him saying: "By Allah, we have no book to read except Allah's Book and what is written in this scroll. He unrolled the scroll which showed a list of what sort of camels to be given as blood-money, and other legal matters relating to killing game in the sanctuary of Makkah and the expiation thereof. In it was also written: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Al-Madinah is a sanctuary from 'Air to Thaur (mountains). He who innovates in this territory new ideas in Islam, commits a sin therein, or shelters the innovators, will incur the Curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people, and Allah will accept from him neither repentance nor a ransom on the Day of Resurrection. The asylum (pledge of protection) granted by any Muslim (even of the) lowest status is to be honoured and respected by all other Muslims, and whoever betrays a Muslim in this respect (by violating the pledge) will incur the Curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people; and Allah will accept from him neither repentance nor a ransom on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever attributes his fatherhood to someone other than his (real) father, and takes someone else as his master other than his (real) master without his permission, will incur the Curse of Allah, the angels and all the people, and Allah will accept from him neither repentance nor a ransom on the Day of Resurrection."
And it was narrated from Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
No person who claimed knowingly anyone else as his father besides (his own) committed nothing but infidelity, and he who made a claim of anything, which (in fact) did not belong to him, is not amongst us; he should make his abode in Fire, and he who labeled anyone with unbelief or called him the enemy of Allah, and he was in fact not so, it rebounded on him.
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
