You are forbidden to me; I will not approach you and I will not have intercourse with you

Fatwa number ( 9010 )
Q: A discussion and misunderstanding occurred between me and my wife, which angered me and put me in an abnormal state. Then I said to her: (You are forbidden to me; I will not approach you and I will not have intercourse with you). I ask your Eminence to look into this matter, and may Allah guide you always.
A: If your intention by forbidding was zihar, then you must pay the expiation for zihar, which is: freeing a believing slave. If you do not find one, then fast for two consecutive months. If you are unable to do so, then feed sixty poor people, and this must be done before you touch her. If your intention by forbidding was divorce, then one divorce has taken effect, and it is permissible for you to take her back during the waiting period, provided this is not the third of three divorces. If you did not intend divorce or zihar, but rather intended to abstain, then if you have intercourse with her, you must pay the expiation for an oath, which is: freeing a slave, or feeding ten poor people, or clothing them. If you do not find the means to do so, then fast for three days.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
