Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 8557 )
Q: I inform you that I am married to a wife, and I have six children (6 children) from her. She has never been undutiful to me during all these past years, and I have been fulfilling my duty toward her. However, recently she has defied my authority in many matters. Among them: she denied me access to my bed. I tried several times, but she insisted on not giving me my bed. She said—meaning my aforementioned wife—that we will not share the same bed until my request is fulfilled, and I am unable to fulfill her request. Your Excellency, my patience has run out
Sabri, and I wanted to threaten her, so I said: “As for divorce, I will never divorce you, but the second need is forbidden to me, and by that I mean: intercourse, meaning: it is forbidden for me to have intercourse with you.” After this statement, I regretted it and she regretted it. His Excellency the President: What is the ruling on this statement and what is the solution?
A: If the situation is as described, then have intercourse with your wife and expiate for your oath by feeding ten poor people, or clothing them, or freeing a believing slave. If you cannot find the means to do so, then fast for three days. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
