The second question of Fatwa No. ( 5851 )
Q2: A man is married and has children from his wife. Then his wife fell ill. Is he obligated by the Shari'ah to treat her, or is it obligatory for her relatives, such as her father, for example?
A2: Evidence from the Book and the Sunnah has come regarding the command to do good
and to do what is right to people in general and to the closest relatives in particular. Allah the Exalted said:[An-Nahl 16:90] And He said: [An-Nisa 4:36] , and it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: Sunan Ibn Majah 1977Hasan (Darussalam) , so it is obligatory for the Muslim to be good in his treatment of his family and to do what is right to them. As for the costs of treatment and its expenses, they are not obligatory on the husband, like maintenance and housing, but it is prescribed for him to spend on them if he is able; due to the generality of His saying, Blessed and Exalted is He: and the generality of the aforementioned hadith. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives
Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the neighbor farther away, the companion at your side, the traveler, and those whom your right hands possess. Indeed, Allah does not like those who are self-deluding and boastful.
The best of you is the one who is best to his wife, and I am the best of you to my wives.
And live with them in kindness
