Marriage to One’s Brother’s Stepdaughter
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 9077 )
Q: I am a poor servant of Allah, currently a resident of Britain , originally from Jerusalem . I married a divorced British woman,
and she has a son and a daughter. Allah blessed me with a daughter from her, whom we named Yasmin. Then Allah favored us by guiding my wife, her son, and her daughter to Islam, and He made their Islam good, praise be to Allah. The question is as follows, and I ask Allah to reward you and grant you all good: I have a brother of marriageable age who desires my wife’s daughter, whose name is now Amina, and she is approximately fourteen years old. Is this permissible in our Islamic Shari'ah? We are awaiting the response.
A: If the situation is as described, and the girl named Amina is your wife’s daughter from another man, then it is permissible for your brother to marry her, and your marriage to her mother has no effect on this marriage. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
