Marriage of a step-sister

Fatwa number ( 4848 )
Q: I have a paternal uncle. He previously married a woman who bore him a daughter, then he divorced her. He then married another woman who bore him a son and a daughter. After that, my paternal brother married the woman my uncle had divorced, i.e., my uncle’s ex-wife, and she bore him a daughter, i.e., a daughter for my paternal brother. Then my uncle’s second wife, i.e., the mother of the son and daughter, passed away. My paternal brother had already passed away after divorcing the woman he married after my uncle. So, my uncle married his first ex-wife, i.e., the woman he had previously married, then divorced, and my paternal brother had married. After this, my paternal cousin married my paternal brother’s daughter, and I married my paternal cousin’s daughter, who is the sister of my paternal cousin. What is your opinion, Your Eminence?
A: If the matter is as described, then the marriage of each of you is valid. The fact that your wife, who is your paternal cousin’s daughter, is a step-sister to your brother, and the wife of your paternal cousin, who is your brother’s daughter, is a step-sister to her father—this has no effect on the validity of either of your marriages.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
