Binding the marriage contract in the mosque

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 9903 )
Q: Holding wedding parties in mosques where men and women attend, with a separate area for each. The contract is performed, then some people give sermons, then sweets are distributed to the attendees, and the bride and groom are congratulated, after which everyone leaves. Please note that children attend such celebrations, and sometimes women who are not committed to the teachings of the religion, as well as men. Also, please note that a large number of committed brothers in Egypt insist—sometimes—on this form of celebration. What is the correct ruling in this matter, with a request to cover it from all angles and mention the evidence, so that the benefit may be widespread, by the will of Allah the Exalted.
A: It is not a recommended practice to perform the marriage contract in mosques, and making it a habit to perform the marriage contract inside the mosque and believing it to be a recommended practice is a religious innovation; for it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718a

And if women who display their adornment and children who cause harm in the mosque attend the wedding contract party, then performing that marriage contract in the mosque is prohibited; because of the harm in that. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
