A man proposing over his brother's proposal

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 7588 )
Q: A man proposed to a girl from her parents—meaning the father and mother, with their consent—three years ago. After three years, a conversation took place between the young man and the girl, meaning they agreed to contract the marriage. A week after that conversation, another man intervened and proposed to her from her family secretly, without making it public, and they gave the girl to the other suitor. Today we ask Allah, then your Eminence, to explain to us whether this is permissible or not permissible in the Shari'ah?
A: If the situation is as you described, the father of the girl contracting the marriage for the second suitor is valid, but his proceeding to propose to her is not permissible if he was aware of the first suitor's proposal and their inclination toward him. If he was not aware of his proposal, it is permissible. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
