A man traveling with his brother's wife
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 8482 )
Q1: If one of your relatives, let us say your brother, asks you to go and travel with his wife to her relatives who reside in a distant land more than a day and a night's journey away, and you have no choice but to do so, except for one solution: that your tired father, for whom it is difficult except in cases of extreme necessity, takes over this task instead of you, and since there is no way out of this, do you obey your brother and your father and travel with her, or do you let your father travel with her instead of you? Please advise us, may Allah reward you.
A: 1 A man is not a mahram (a relative one may not marry) to his brother's wife, so she must not obey the command of her father or her brother to travel with him to her relatives or anyone else; because there is no obedience to a created being in disobedience to the Creator. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
