Fatwa number ( 7475 )
Q: I have a wife who has very good qualities; she prays a
good prayer, and she strictly and sincerely observes the Shari'ah hijab, and her observance of it was the reason all the women in our village observed it... and so on of good qualities. But this woman makes mistakes that I fear silence and patience with her are not permissible for, meaning: I fear she may have a ruling and I am unaware of it. So, when she is angry, she curses me or curses my father, or says other words, such as: "May the jinn lift you up," "The ghouls have taken you," or "I forbid you," or "It is forbidden for me to have relations with you," or "It is forbidden for me to be your wife from now on," I ask you to issue a ruling: Is patience with her in this case better, or do her words result in a serious ruling regarding the marriage?
A: If the reality of the aforementioned woman in her uprightness is as you described, but she is afflicted with what you mentioned—then be patient with her for the sake of the good qualities she has, and advise her to avoid the cursing, forbidding, and supplication mentioned, and similar foul words. Command her to repent to Allah the Exalted, and to avoid the causes of anger that may lead to what was mentioned. She owes an expiation for an oath for the forbidding that occurred from her, and what was mentioned has no effect on your marital relationship with her.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
