Q: I am married, praise be to Allah, and I work as a kindergarten teacher in one of the schools. My husband agrees to this job. One of the conditions of employment is that my guardian (my husband) signs a contract agreeing to my work without sudden interruption. One day, a disagreement occurred between me and my husband, and he said to me: "Go to your family's house," and ordered me to go. When he dropped me off, he did not inform me or order me to stay at my family's house without going out. So, I went and ordered my older brother to take me to his place until I finished my teaching, especially since it was the final exam period (two weeks), and it is difficult to bring a substitute teacher to sit in my place. When my husband learned that I had gone to my brother's, he became very angry and said: "You left without my permission," even though I left my family's house to go to my brother's house because the school was close to my brother's, and in accordance with the contract my husband signed agreeing to teaching
and continuing in it without interruption. He asked me to return to my family's house and stay there until the problem is resolved, but I refused because my job does not allow me to be absent. And so I finished teaching, as the period was only two weeks, and the vacation would come. After this period (14 days), I returned from my brother's to my family's house, and the problem was resolved through the mediation of people of good, and I returned to my home. But my question is: Am I considered disobedient because I left without his (i.e., my husband's) permission, even though he is bound by the school contract for a full year, and he blames me a lot and says that I am supposed to obey him and return to my family's house even if he is bound by a contract, and that I am very confused about my situation. And is it permissible for him to breach the labor contract?
A: If the situation is as you described in the question, regarding his agreement to your work in teaching, then there is no blame on you for that; due to the saying of Allah, the Exalted:[Al-Ma'idah 5:1] and His saying: Sunan Abi Dawud 2625Sahih (Al-Albani)
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
