Celebrations for various occasions and what accompanies them
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 18853 )
Q1: There arereligious occasions with us, such as weddings, funerals, or ordinary occasions, and they bring in reciters, and they bring in hand drums and loudspeakers, and they recite and dance to the sound of religious hymns, and there are also sermons from some scholars. Are these actions permissible in the pure Shari'ah, and if we attend these gatherings, do we benefit from reward or is there sin upon us? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.
A1: Holding a wedding feast for the occasion of marriage, and women beating the hand drum among themselves away from the men, with some of the usual singing, is not a problem; rather, it is a recommended practice. As for men, it is not permissible for them to beat hand drums or sing. As for holding
celebrations for the occasion of a death, that is an innovated matter, so it is obligatory to leave it off. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
