Men beating drums at circumcision and wedding ceremonies
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 15977 )
Q: We sometimes hold occasions such as circumcisions and weddings. On such occasions, men gather in one place, drums are beaten, some people dance, and there is a great deal of fun. What is the ruling of the Shari'ah on such an act? Please note that on these occasions, only drums are beaten, without any other instruments of amusement, and there is no mixing of men and women, nor does it affect the times of the obligatory prayers. Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you with good.
A: It is not permissible for men to beat drums on occasions such as circumcision and others; because this is among the forbidden forms of amusement. It is only recommended for women to beat the hand drum on the occasion of a wedding to announce the marriage, as the Sunnah has come with this
Sunnah, and this is to be done without mixing with men, but rather within the circle of women. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
