Q: Among some people in some villages in the regions of al-Hijaz , the following occurs during weddings: 1- Colored flags are placed on the cars in the bride's procession, and sometimes the flag is white and green. Flags are also placed on the house of the newlywed for several weeks, and sometimes they remain for several months. 2- When the bride leaves her father's house, her father fires a gun near her to announce her departure, or her husband or any relative does so. The same act of firing guns occurs when she arrives at her husband's house, to the extent that this phenomenon has become a custom and tradition among some tribes? 3- The women listen to a musical recording accompanied by music, drums, and other instruments of amusement, and then they dance to it.
I hope you will answer, may Allah preserve you and guide your steps.
A: First, know that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged announcing the marriage so that it would be distinguished from fornication. However, this announcement is to be done in the prescribed manner: through testimony, through women beating the hand drum, and through their singing in a manner that is not lewd, containing no fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) or free mixing of men and women. The announcement is also made by inviting people to the wedding feast. Accordingly, the answer to what you asked is as follows: 1 - Placing a flag on the car in which the couple rides, and on houses, is imitating the practice of some people of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, which Islam abolished and prohibited. This is known as: (marriage of prostitutes), and they used to put a flag on their houses, so whoever wanted them would enter upon them. Therefore, it is not permissible to raise the aforementioned flag to announce the marriage. 2 - Firing guns in marriage is not part of the Shari'ah announcement, and it contains dangers that necessitate its prohibition. 3 - Listening to a musical recording with music, drums, and other instruments of amusement, and then the women dancing to it—all of this is what is wrong and not permissible, whether in marriage or otherwise.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
