Among the blameworthy practices of the wedding.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The third topic: What people do now on the wedding night. Some people limit themselves to what is permissible; they send singers, whether paid or unpaid, to sing permissible songs and beat the hand drum to express joy and happiness, but they do not cross the limit. This is because he recites the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And do not make your hand [as] chained to your neck or extend it completely وَلا تَجْعَلْ يَدَكَ مَغْلُولَةً إِلَى عُنُقِكَ وَلا تَبْسُطْهَا كُلَّ الْبَسْطِ
[Al-Isra 17:29]
And He, Glorified and Exalted is He, says:
Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils إِنَّ الْمُبَذِّرِينَ كَانُوا إِخْوَانَ الشَّيَاطِينِ
[Al-Isra 17:27]
It has reached me that some people bring in singers and give them ten thousand on that night. What did they do that we should give them ten thousand? It has also reached me that some of the wealthy and ruined ones bring in singers from abroad. How much for the night? Perhaps sixty thousand. And this is extravagance. And Allah the Exalted said:
And be not excessive. Indeed, He does not like those who commit excess. وَلا تُسْرِفُوا إِنَّهُ لا يُحِبُّ الْمُسْرِفِينَ
[Al-An'am 6:141]

And it is regrettable that such vast sums of money are spent on these occasions, while our brothers in the east and west of the earth are being killed, driven from their homes, and dying of hunger, as if there is enmity between us and them. We do not feel that they are our brothers, that their pains are our pains, and their hopes are our hopes.
And the believers in their mutual love, mercy, and compassion are like one body; if one part of it complains, the rest of the body responds to it with fever and sleeplessness. ومثل المؤمنين في توادهم وتراحمهم وتعاطفهم كمثل الجسد الواحد إذا اشتكى منه عضو تداعى له سائر الجسد بالحمى والسهر
If pain were to strike your finger, you would not sleep at night, because the body is one. So it is with our brothers; we do not forget them. There should not be this extravagance, this waste, and this arrogance from us while our brothers are in need of money. And I am not saying that we should give our brothers all our wealth; that is a time that has passed, unless Allah wills. But at the very least, we should reduce the expenses that have no necessity and send what we would spend on these occasions to our afflicted brothers. And praise be to Allah, relief organizations are now established and accessible. It is not more than you sending the money to these organizations and doing what is required in them. But we ask Allah for well-being; when people commit something, they are heedless of other things.
