A woman's voice is 'awrah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa number ( 5167 )
Q4: It is said that a woman's voice is 'awrah, is this correct?
A4: A woman is a place for men to satisfy their desires, so they are drawn to her by the instinct of lust. If she speaks with coquetry, it increases the fitnah. Therefore, Allah commanded the believers, when they ask women for a need or a commodity, to ask them from behind a screen. He the Exalted said:[Al-Ahzab 33:53] , and He forbade women, when they address men, to be submissive in their speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease be tempted. If this is the case while the believers were in the strength of their faith and its nobility, how much more so in this time when faith has weakened and those who hold fast to the religion have become few?
So you must avoid mingling with non-mahram men, and not speak with them except for a dire necessity, without submissiveness or softness in speech, due to the aforementioned verse. By this, you will know that the bare voice, which is not accompanied by submissiveness, is not 'awrah; because the women used to speak to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and ask him about matters of their religion, and likewise they used to speak to the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) regarding their needs, and that was not condemned for them. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a partition. That is purer for your hearts and their hearts.
