Is a woman’s voice an awrah (part of the body that must be covered) or not? And what is the evidence?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is a woman’s voice an awrah (part of the body that must be covered) or not? And what is the evidence?

The Shaykh : There is no explicit general evidence that a woman’s voice is an awrah (part of the body that must be covered) if it is in its natural state and manner. Rather, if she intentionally softens and embellishes it with some of the usual softness customary among women—especially broadcasters who intentionally use a laugh or a smile to attract men’s attention—this is undoubtedly an awrah (part of the body that must be covered) and a fitnah (trial, discord or temptation). As for ordinary speech, if it is measured, balanced, and serious, and is not accompanied by any of what we mentioned, it is ordinary speech. A woman’s voice in relation to a man is like his voice in relation to her.
