Is it true that you said a woman's voice is not an awrah?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you. A questioner asks: Did you issue a fatwa stating that a woman's voice is not an awrah?

The Shaykh : Yes, we issued this ruling based on the words of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, to the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
O wives of the Prophet, you are not like anyone among women. If you fear Allah, then do not be soft in speech [to men], lest he in whose heart is disease should covet
[Al-Ahzab 33:32]
Thus, Allah prohibited softness in speech, meaning a woman should not address a man with soft words that lead to fitnah. However, mere speech is not an awrah. These women would come to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to ask him questions in the presence of the Companions, and he would not tell them to speak to him in secret because their voice is an awrah. Therefore, the voice is not an awrah, but softness in speech, where a woman's words are soft in a way that arouses desire, is what is forbidden.
However, the issue of a woman speaking to a non-mahram man, who is not among her mahram relatives, remains, and this involves extensive and broad details. Otherwise, we could not tell a woman who passed through the market and met a man, "Greet the man," or tell the man, "Do not greet her."
