Fatwa No. ( 3684 )
Q: Is it permissible for a menstruating woman to pray, and is it permissible to have intercourse on those days, the night of 'Id al-Adha and the Night of Decree? When is it forbidden for a Muslim to have intercourse with his wife?
A: First: It is not permissible for a menstruating woman to pray while she is menstruating, and the prayer
is dropped from her, and she does not make it up after her menstruation ends. When her menstruation stops, it is obligatory for her to perform the full ritual bath and perform the current prayer. Second: It is forbidden for a husband to have intercourse with his wife in her private parts while she is menstruating, but he may have intercourse with her in other places, and he may have intercourse with her on the Night of Decree and the night of 'Id al-Adha, unless he is in a state of consecration for Hajj. It is forbidden to have intercourse with her while he is in a state of consecration for Hajj or 'Umrah until he exits the state of consecration from his Hajj by stoning the pillars, performing the circumambulation of the Ka'bah, and walking between al-Safa and al-Marwah , and shaving the head or shortening the hair. He exits the state of consecration from his 'Umrah after its circumambulation, walking, and shaving the head or shortening the hair. The same ruling applies if she is in a state of consecration for Hajj or 'Umrah, even if he is not in a state of consecration. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
