Q5: A woman’s husband has been afflicted with drinking forbidden intoxicants, and she cannot bear him in his state of intoxication. She avoids his bed and does not obey him when he desires her. Is that permissible for her , or is she considered sinful for boycotting her husband’s bed, and does the curse of the angels befall her until morning, as mentioned in the hadith?
A5: If the situation is as described, she incurs no sin for this. It is obligatory for her to advise him. If he repents, praise be to Allah. If he refuses and persists in the crime, she should seek divorce to distance herself from what is wrong. If he refuses, she should refer her case to the judge. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
