The wife of a drinker of intoxicants: is she sinful for boycotting him while he is intoxicated?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fifth question of the fatwa numbered ( 6948 )
Q5: A woman’s husband was afflicted with the forbidden drink, and she cannot bear him in his state of intoxication. She avoids his bed and cannot bear him when he desires her. Is that permissible for her, or is she sinful for boycotting her husband’s bed, and does the curse of the angels befall her until morning, as mentioned in the hadith?
A5: If the situation is as described, it is permissible for her to boycott him, and she incurs no sin for doing so. It is obligatory for her to advise him. If he repents, praise be to Allah. If he refuses and persists in the crime, she should seek divorce to distance herself from the evil. If he refuses, she should refer her case to the judge.
