The bridal gift may be paid in material goods

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 1225 )
Q: The content is that he married a woman with a bridal gift of gold bracelets whose type was not specified, two camels, and two rings. She has passed away, and he mentions that their value now is different from their value at the time of the commitment. He asks whether he is obligated to pay their value at that time or now?
A: As long as the matter is as the questioner described, regarding his commitment to his wife for the bracelets, the two camels, and the two rings, then they are obligatory in his liability. There is no consideration for their value at the time of the commitment or thereafter. He must pay them to the heirs of her estate or those who stand in their place. If they agree with him to appraise them at a fair price at today’s rate and pay out their value, there is no harm in that.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
