Q: Indeedmy father married me to my sister as a substitute, and this method occurred out of ignorance,and after it became clear to us that it was forbidden, I divorced my wife and the man who had married my sister also divorced her. After that, my sister married another man. Now, my wife is still with me and refuses to marry anyone but me, knowing that I had two sons from her before the divorce. Now, is it permissible for me to take back my wife, who still wants to marry me, and is it permissible for me to pay a new mahr and contract a new nikah after a period of about three years? I ask your eminence to explain what I must do?
A: It is permissible for you to marry your former wife with a new dowry and a new marriage contract, just as with any other woman you propose to. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
